Reading and Phonics

St Anne’s School teaches phonics through a Read Write Inc. programme. Children are divided into smaller groups so that staff can focus on teaching each child at their level.

with you in detail our approach to the teaching of phonics during the induction sessions and planned parents evenings.

St Anne’s uses a variety of reading schemes across the school. Reading is taught individually and as part of guided/group reading sessions.  In KS1, Bug Club, a reading programme which joins e-books with printed books allows children to read at their own level and pace, with rewards to motivate children to want to read more. The Oxford Reading Tree scheme is also used and this is supplemented by class books and the use of the school library.

Our school library is stocked with books from every genre and for different levels of readers of all ages. Through the year the library stock is reviewed, changed and added to so that new titles as well as old classics and factual books are always available.

For those children needing extra practise with sound knowledge please take a look at this site

There are also some great phonics apps out there to help.

For advice on reading with your child at home this site is excellent and gives free books to read online.
