Father Dennis Higgins
It is with great sadness that we have to share with you that Father Higgins passed away peacefully this morning, Friday 20th January 2017.
He has had an enormously positive impact on our school and he will be greatly missed by our school family.
Father celebrated his 85th birthday only last weekend and the children from each class made him a birthday card all of which were shared with him, to his delight. Sadly, as the week progressed, Father became increasingly poorly.
Yesterday, the children learnt one of his favourite songs, I Was Born under a Wandering Star and the whole school sang it together. It was recorded and Mrs. Sierotko took it that afternoon and played it to him. We had already decided to dedicate part of our new building extension to him as over the years, he has contributed so much money from the parish towards previous building projects at school. A plaque had already been engraved and Mrs. Sierotko took this and read the words inscribed to Father. We can do no better than to repeat these words:
“The Father Higgins Suite. In recognition of the love, guidance, care and support given by Father Dennis Higgins to the pupils and staff of St. Anne’s School.”
This will be a lasting memorial to a man who touched so many of our hearts.
